We are going to be in split in 2 weeks. We want to go to Dubrovnik. Is the ferry/ catamaran faster than the car.
Can we do it as a day trip on the ferry?
Or should we just go to the islands?

PS. I want a Game of thrones fix. Is it obvious when in Dubrovnik ?
The ferry schedule is more limited in May, but I believe there is a daily ferry going from Split to Dubrovnik and I think that it takes around 4 hours. You could also go to the islands along the way if you wanted (e.g. Split -> Hvar or Korcula, and then on to Dubrovnik the next day.) You'd only save around an hour or so by taking a car.
There is a Game of Thrones walking tour (see http://www.viator.com/tours/Dubrovnik/Viator-Exclusive-Game-of-Thrones-Walking-Tour-of-Dubrovnik/d904-5360GAMETHRONES), but I haven't been on this particular tour, so can't vouch for it.
We drove between Dubrovnik and Split so we could stop at the arboretum north of Dubrovnik where most of the Diana Rigg shots were filmed. It was empty and very pleasant to visit. Sounds like your trio already happened. Hope it was great!
