Split-Plitvice-Zadar-Split (Blue Cave)

Hi,

I would like to visit Croatia in the first week of July. Haven't booked anything yet because I am still deciding on how many nights are needed (I can do max of 7-8 nights)

A rough itinerary:
Day 1 - Arrive in Split (probably afternoon), night in Split
Day 2 - Travel to Plitvice (in the afternoon), night in Plitvice
Day 3 - Plitvice, night in Plitvice
Day 4 - Travel to Zadar (in the morning), night in Zadar
Day 5 - Travel to Split
Day 6 - Blue Cave tour from Split
Day 7 - Leave Split

  1. Can I do all these via public transport? Do you have any info on public transport from Split - Plitvice - Zadar - Split? I checked this website and it doesn't have buses from Split to Plitvice: http://www.ak-split.hr/EN/vozni.red/VozniRedOdlazaka.aspx
  2. If I travel by public transport, will I have problems getting to my hotel in Plitvice? Any recommendations for accommodation there?
  3. Should I travel to Zadar on Day 3 and have two nights in Zadar instead of two nights in Plitvice?
  4. Any itinerary changes suggested?
  5. Any other places you think I must see? Should I go to Krka National Park?

1 - Try the schedules on http://www.buscroatia.com. The website can be a little finicky at times, but you can get full bus schedules for your route for your dates. There are several busses each day from Split to Plitvice.

3 - It will probably be easier to leave for Zadar in the morning rather than the evening. Because of the number of day-trippers to Plitvice, the busses to Zagreb/Split can get full quickly. I assume that ones to Zadar also fill up, but there are more busses per day to Zadar, so it may not be as bad.

4,5 - What time of day are you intending to go to Split on Day 5? If you are leaving in the morning, you could go part of the way to Krka, and then later head on to Split. However, whether this makes sense is going to be dependent on the bus schedule. If it is possible, you'd need to decide between Krka and Split. Go with Krka if you like the outdoors, national parks, and nature. Go with Split if you prefer culture and ancient history. Depending on your energy level, you could try to do both -- Diocletian's Palace is beautiful at night.
