Split, Hvar, or Strari Grad.

We get to Split on May 12 and have 4 nights in the area.
We were thinking of taking the car ferry to Hvar, staying there for 2 nights and then going back to Split for 2 nights.

1. Should we just stay in Hvar and do a day trip to Spilt? We fly out of Split on May 16.

2 Should we stay in Hvar or Stari Grad.

I know it will be too early for beach days :(, but we like to explore and eat good food.
I read that Stari Grad is mellow and has good farm to table restaurants.

By the way we will be coming from Plitvice.
This is the end of our 16 days starting in Ljubljana.

To make the most of your time, stay in Hvar Town until the night before your flight home, when staying in Split makes sense. That eliminates the need for a day trip to Split and gives you time to see Diocletian’s Palace and be situated within an hour of the airport the night before.
Stay in Hvar Town and take the local bus to check out Stari Grad which is a great place to visit but it can be a really sleepy place to base yourself. Stari Grad is the cruise port for Hvar island.

12 arrive Split ..... I would keep on going to Hvar town. A little longer trip, but ............

To be honest, my two visits for Split were both less than desired and I wouldnt go back again. I would replace the time in Split with Stari Grad or Hvar town. But thats bad advice as everyone should try it for themselves.
