Split for a day

We have a May 2023 cruise that docks in Split from 7a to 4p.
Looking for suggestions for our short time there.
Maybe a restaurant you liked as well.

Diocletians’s Palace/Old Town
Walk The Riva
Mestrovic Gallery and Kastelet Chapel.

Hire a guide or follow the walking tour/gallery guide in RS Croatia and Slovenia guidebook.

FYI. Uber works very well in Split and is inexpensive.

We loved Split! We spent 4 nights there including a day trip to Hvar Town and another day trip to Trogir.

For a one day visit, I recommend hiring a private tour guide for Diocletian's Palace and the Old Town. We hired Maja Benzon, recommended by Rick, for a private 2-hour guided tour, and she was awesome. She grew up in Split and is very knowledgeable and warm and friendly.

We also enjoyed the very interesting Ethnographic Museum. It's small so you don't need a lot of time.

Other things to do: walk along the Riva and have a drink at an outdoor cafe and watch the world go by. The manager of our hotel did not recommend dining at any of the Riva restaurants. Food is not very good.

For lunch or dinner, I recommend the Bokeria Restaurant. The hotel we stayed at included vouchers at Bokeria for breakfast. Our breakfasts were delicious! Because we ate here every morning, we didn't dine here for lunch or breakfast but I know Bokeria gets excellent reviews for lunches and dinners. We also enjoyed our dinner at Central Kavana Restaurant in Narodni Square.

I agree with the other posters, hire a guide for a few hours, then circle back to what was interesting. The city itself is a museum. We visited twice and used Pero Ugarković. He is also a native of Split. His email is lignja@gmail.com. He also can take you to Trogir. Mention our names (Barbara & Sanjin from NY). As far as eating, any cafe along the Riva is fine because the views are beautiful.
