I will be staying in Split for a few days the end of June and beginning of July. While I'm in Split, I want to visit Hvar and Korcula. I would like suggestions on how I should spend my time. Would you advise that I spend 3 nights in Split and make day trips to Korcula and Hvar by ferry or spend two nights in Split and the 3rd night in either Hvar or Korcula?
Thank you for your suggestions!
I think it depends on what time you arrive in Split and where you're heading next. When I was there I spent the night in Trogir, arrived in Split in the morning, spent most of the day there, and took a late afternoon ferry to Hvar. Spent two nights in Hvar and two nights in Korcula before heading to Dubrovnik.
On the RS Best of the Adriatic tour they spend two nights in Split, take a morning ferry to Hvar, spend much of the day there, and then take an afternoon ferry to Korcula, where they spend two nights.
With just three nights, you could do something similar to the RS tour. If the choice is between 2 nights Split and 1 night Korcula or the reverse, I'd go with 1 night Split and 2 nights Korcula. But again, this assumes you can arrive in Split early enough.
I would not recommend staying in Split all three nights and doing day trips to the islands. You'll end up spending too much time on ferries.
Many places on the islands have a 3 night minimum booking, so you may struggle to find somewhere or have to pay a premium for a short booking.
Three nights means 2 full days there, which doesn't give you any time to see Split or nearby Trogir if you spend these days visiting islands, plus it's too much time on a catamaran and not enough time visiting IMO. Pick one island.
Hvar is easier to get to for a day trip, as it's a shorter ride and has more services to choose from.
Split to Korcula entails getting the 7.40am boat, arriving at 10am then returning at 18.30 from Korcula, back in Split at 20.45. A long day.
Look at kilo.hr and jadrolinija.hr for timetables.
We just spent one night in Split and took the morning car ferry to Hvar Town.
We loved Olive Tree Apartments with sweeping views of the harbor. See if they will let you stay for 2 nights. We hiked to the castle, walked and biked the paths of the harbor and enjoyed wine on our terrace every evening. We found Hvar to be quiet and delightful !
Thank you for your detailed and thoughtful replies. I so appreciate the time you took to help me.
Keep traveling safely,
