Hi
My husband and I are planning a 2 week vacation to Budapest, Prague and Dalmatian coast late May. We've got Budapest and Prague planned and that leaves us with 6 nights (5 full days) for Split (arriving 1pm) and then Dubrovnik. I'm going back and forth on whether to split equally into 3 nights each vs 2 nights each and throw in 2 nights in Hvar. Or consider Hvar as a day trip from Split?
Any advice appreciated!
This kind of conundrum is the hardest part of travel planning!
Some will argue to their dying breath that you should do day trips, others the opposite. It is really a personal preference thing. Are you flying out of Dubrovnik? Have you made a list of what you want to see in each place?
The catamaran schedule definitely makes it possible to insert a stopover, so it really just depends on if you want that extra stop.
Kris and I spent ten days in Croatia last summer, our first time there. The places we would most love to go back to are Rovinj, Sibenik and Korcula. Dubrovnik was amazing, but very crowded late June. Definitely worth seeing. The old city of Sibenik was fabulous. It's a little north of Split, which was a bit too big and busy for our tastes, though we'd try it again in the off-season. Korcula is the more laid back alternative to Hvar. We could almost live there. We caught the ferry at Split to Korcula, then a few days later ferried to Dubrovnik. It's all good!
valadelphia is right - the answer depends on what you want to do. But if you are using the ferry to get from Split to Dubrovnik anyway, you balance a having an additional change of location versus backstracking. I am not you - but my choice would be 2 nights Split, 2 nights either Hvar or Korćula and 2 nights Dubrovnik. And choose your ferry times to maximize your stays.
Thanks everyone! I will do some research about how we want to spend out days and make a decision.
Krilo and Jadrolinija are the catamaran operators if you want to check schedules as you sort it out. You can’t go wrong either way!
