More details on your preferences will help others provide better recommendations.

However, if cost is your driver, you might want to consider staying in Cavtat, or at least
in the Lapad area. Another factor is where you need to get to for your boat departure.
If it's the port area of Dubrovnik, it's much more reasonably priced there, but, it's much
more local and not as touristy.

We would prefer staying within the city walls. We haven't been there since 2022, so I realize prices have gone up. Just looking for one night.

@ Mr E; I defer to your knowledge. When I was there a couple of years ago, lodging in
Cavtat was a better deal than within the Old Town. I ended up staying near the port
area....

shoeflyer. Funny it came up. I was looking for a hotel there just a few days ago. I only worked at if for about 30 min and struck out at what I wanted to pay. Im open to suggestions. I was going to ask a friend in Dubrovnik to suggest a place in or south of Dubrovnik and see if she knows something i didn't see. My trip is in September and the Dubrovnik tourist numbers are still crazy then, so i might just fly to Podgorica and skip the madness. I have time to figure it out. Well honestly, I came up with a few stops, but am letting someone else do the planning. Im lazy.

EDIT, shoeflyer, you inspired me. I went back and looked somemore. A hotel in or within a few blocks of the coast, with food within walking distance (or in the hotel) I am still struggling to find anthing under 220 euro a night. But the idea was to stay in or adjacent to the old section and thats even higher, but I will keep looking. The purpose was to visit someone in Dubrovnik on the way to Montenegro but the airfare is higher, the hotels are more expensive and the trip down the coast is a lot of bother.

For the OP, the last one I stayed in, which was several years ago, was I believe called Soleil near the Buza gate inside the walls. For September there are quie a few available showing on a google map hotel search. They look to be $300 and up a night. You just gotta pick your way though them.
