We have 1 full day in Split, and have done the walking tour from a previous trip. Any suggestions for brief side trips...Klis? Salona? The weather is not looking good for next week(rain, rain, rain), but would appreciate any recommendations. We will then board a smal 37 passenger ship for a 6 day cruise to the Dalmatia Islands after that.

We did a day trip to Trogir on a small boat - 1.5 hr ride. Very pleasant. There is also an extensive Roman ruin outside of town - Salona. There is also a fine Archeological Museum in Split.

Have you been to Trogir? Close to Split. Just out beyond the Split Airport. Very nice old town. An easy day trip.

Does that cruise go to Hvar Island? Hvar makes an excellent day trip from Split by direct ferry (50m). Ferries begin running at 7:30a and return as late as 7:40p. I would probably take the 7p ferry back to Split in case something goes wrong.

There is a tourist bus by the pier that stops at Klis, Salona, and Trogir then brings you back to Split. You have enough time at each stop and there is commentary.
