Side trips

If I had to choose between Kotor, Montenegro and Mostar, Bosnia H.... as day trips from Dubrovnik?
Any suggestions? Or should I make sure I do both? I COULD do both if I spend one less day in Dubrovnik.

I pick Mostar, but I would try to stay overnight if you can. It seems like a very long day trip otherwise.
Both choices are good ones but Mostar feels more 'different' than Croatia, so for that reason, I would pick it.

On the upside, if you choose Montenegro, then you can squeeze in much more than Kotor in one day.

With regard to the towns themselves (not the journey getting to each one of them), I'd pick Mostar over Kotor, easily. Mostar is a much more interesting town. If you had a rainy day, I'd probably pick Mostar.

But comparing the journey to get to each place AND the town...it becomes more even. The scenery around the Bay of Kotor is breathtaking, and if you fancy to climb the steep "walls" above Kotor, the views down are amazing. Although there is some nice scenery along the Dalmatian coast north of Dubrovnik, once you turn inland toward Mostar, the scenery is nothing special. There is nothing that compares to the scenery along the Bay of Kotor - of course, on a rainy day, the scenery may not be so amazing.

As a bonus, you could stop at the lovely town of Perast on the way to Kotor. From there (I think) you can take a boat ride out to that eye-popping church you see out on the island.
