Sibenik

My husband and I are in our 60s and will be in Croatia in late August. We will visit Split and Dubrovnik.
We were going to include Korcula, but I’m thinking of spending a few days in Sibenik and visiting the small islands nearby instead. We want to hike, bike, swim and relax.
Would appreciate any thoughts.

I haven’t been to Sibenik. It’s not in RS guidebook, but is gaining popularity on this forum. My hot take is: why not Korcula? Korcula has hiking, biking, swimming, small islands and relaxing too. And importantly, it’s on the ferry route from Dubrovnik to Split. So at least as you’ve outlined your itinerary here, it’s more convenient than Sibenik.

My experience on the coast was basically “everything is awesome.” Every stop was beautiful with crystal clear waters and great swimming. Towns are kind of similar in that they are all Venetian era port towns. You can’t really go too wrong here.

I agree with the above poster. The ferries from Šibenik are very limited, most people ferry out of Zadar. Korčula is an easy ferry ride from Dubrovnik and to Split, we’ve done this route with family and friends at least 5x the past years.
From Korčula you can take a water taxi to a few smaller islands, one being Vrnik where only 4 people live year round. Hiking around the entire island doesn’t take long, although I haven’t done it in years. You can rent bikes or off road vehicles on Korčula. Plenty of hiking and swimming.
In all our trips to Croatia we still haven’t stop in Šibenik. We’re leaving for Croatia August 14 for a month. We are going to try to visit this year since we have no family or friends with us this trip. Fingers crossed.
If you want the name of a guide, I have two - one in Split, no car, and the other in Split with a car, let me know.

Thank you. Looking for a boutique hotel in a smaller more quiet village. Not seeing anything great on Korcula. Also considering Brac (not Bol) and Hvar (not Hvar Town).

My go to guides in Croatia are:

Pero Ugarkovič, his email is [email protected]. He guides in Split but can take you locally by bus, such as to Trogir. His English is excellent and he has a nice sense of humor, not stiff and boring.

Our other guide, Mate Perajica, email is [email protected] is also native to Split. He has a website, privatedriverguideincroatia.com. He does day trips and overnight stays all around the country, not limited to Split. He took us from Dubrovnik to Medjugorje to Mostar back to Dubrovnik over one night. Also great English and not boring.

Enjoy your stay in Croatia!
