Showing up early for the car ferry from Drvenik to Sucuraj

Hi everyone. I'll be grabbing a car ferry next week in Drvenik to Sucuraj. I've been reading varying reports on how long one must queue up for the ferries, with some saying three hours. I'm sure it's somewhat dependent upon the time of the year, and given it's late may, any thoughts on how many hours in advance I should plan on queuing to catch the ferry from Drvenik? I'm aiming for the 10:30am ferry, if that's an important piece of data.

Cheers,

Tom

We did this last year with a car. We ended up there about an hour ahead because we were worried about getting on. We were car #8 in line, but were surprised at how many cars were going ! The only bad thing is that there is NOTHING to do while you wait, except look forward to the next location on the itinerary !

Thanks Carla. Can I ask what time of the year this was? As I continue to look into this, I'm seeing horror stories about a lack of information and organization at the ferry ports, with people cutting in line and drivers not knowing if they're even in the right line! I'm sure some are overblown, but I'm still concerned and want to make sure I don't spend half a day missing/waiting for a ferry to get across to Hvar.

I don't know where you have read reports about drivers cutting the queue - I have never seen this happen on Croatian ferries and nor have I read any such comments.

Everything is very organised and clear. Drive down the hill and past the ticket booth and boat jetty. There is only one place to drive as it's a dead end road. The car queue loops back round towards the dock.

Commercial vehicles are given priority, but other than this, cars are taken onboard in the order that they join the queue. The only exception is if they are towing a boat trailer or caravan, when they may have to wait for the next boat if they are nearly the last on and space is tight.

Drvenik is only a small place, but there are a few cafés where you could have a drink or meal whilst you are waiting. In early September last year, an hour in advance was plenty of time to ensure I got on the first boat. You are aiming for a morning sailing, so the worst that can happen is that you have to wait for the next boat. I would be more concerned if I was heading off the island for a flight or if you were on the last boat of the day.

We were there the 3rd week of May. We missed the cafes !

And I have to agree. It was very organized. The road is narrow so you line up and then no one can get ahead of you because there is one lane. We locked our car and walked around.
