We will be in Croatia in late August, and we have a car and 2 kids ages 10 and 12. We currently have an apartment in Rovinj in the Old Town for 4 nights. But now I'm wondering if the East Coast of Istria might be a more "summery" option. We are looking be close to the beach and close to a town. Which home base would you choose? Thanks in advance.

One thing for sure is that everywhere will be extremely busy, especially the beaches. I would consider Kamenjak area near Pula, it's a protected area and has lots of small beaches to choose from.

Rovinj is vastly more beautiful. Beaches are everywhere in Istria. Go to the safari bar at Kamenjak - your kids will flip. Fazana is also great for beaches.
