Rovinj Free Day on the RS Eastern European Tour in October

We have an entire day free in Rovinj. We are looking at taking an all day wine and food tour into the Istrian hills that includes truffle hunting. We have found some online but would welcome personal recommendations.

Another option would be to tour the coast by boat for half a day. Any suggestions? We are not interested in swimming or snorkeling, just enjoying the scenary. What about a trip to Lim Fjord?

Thank you in advance.

Often by the time one reaches the “vacation from vacation” day on a tour, it is important to build some rest into your day. It sounds perfectly reasonable to plan a day long tour before the trip, but it is less appealing after several days of busy touring.

My gauge is usually to look for the activity that is most characteristic of the locale or that I am least likely to do somewhere else. In Istria, I'd stay near the water and, of the options you listed, I'd go for the boat ride.

On our tour "vacation" day in Turkey, we went for the optional boat ride (and went to an optional museum and lunch outing) and absolutely loved all of it. Our boat ride was a relaxing outing of fabulous scenery and refreshing sea air, though we did also swim and dive off the side.

A boat ride sounds more relaxing . I have found some online but does anyone have recommendations for boats out of Rovinj?

Anyone visiting Rovinj can take the Delfin boat Panorama Tour from the naan square docks. It leaves at 11.25. come 20 mins. earlier for best seats on top deck. and takes two hours around the city and the archipelago of islands, with commentary in Croatian, German and English. I take all my guests on it as an intro to the place and the cast, and at 100 kuna, less than 20 bucks, ut is a steal. Bring a wind or rain jacket. and sunglasses and a hat. and your photo device of choice.

Another boat nearby goes all the way to Lim Fjord and back, and some love it. Look up Quo Ladies.

Time to explore Rovinj side alleys and climb the bell tower is a must. And people watch from a good cafe such as Al Ponto or Adriatic hotel, both part of the upmarket Maistra company.

Rovinj is like Venice, you can spend a long time getting to know it. And its people.

As a frequent visitor to Rovinj, I would recommend to just stay put. Spend your day walking up to the church and climbing the bell tower. Walk to the forested peninsula including Lone Beach to the south of town. Have a leisurely lunch (but not at any of the places on the marina). Drink a sundowner at Maestral. I love the website Frank About Croatia and he has great Rovinj tips - https://www.frankaboutcroatia.com/rovinj-croatia/.
