Has anyone rented a car in Rovinj, Croatia and dropped of at a different location in Croatia? We were planning on picking up a rental car from Enterprise in Rovinj and returning it several days later in Split. Unfortunately after reading the small print this doesn't seem to be the smartest choice because they're asking 1800 Euro as security deposit. Asking for a deposit is reasonable enough but 1800 Euro does not seem reasonable? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

You'll need a "security deposit" of some sort on any rental car. Most people put it on their credit card as an authorization not an actual charge. The amount varies by the car company.
A few years ago, I rented a car from a company called Oryx. I actually picked up the car in Rijeka (train from Ljubljana) and then drove to Rovinj. When I walked into town from my lodgings, I walked past another Oryx office along the waterfront. Still glad of the way I arranged my car with the train, but clearly you could rent a car or return it with Oryx too. I used EconomyCarRentals to book my car and get a good rate (returned the car at Zagreb airport at the end of my trip).

I'm renting a car from Oryx in a couple weeks, picking up in Rovinj and returning a few days later in Zadar. I arranged it through Auto Europe/Kemwell. It's going to be one of the more expensive car rentals I've done in Europe (for only 4 days) but I really like going through Auto Europe or Kemwell and this was what they had for Rovinj.
Andrew - I see on google maps the Oryx car rental by the waterfront, but my voucher says to pick up at Hotel Eden (about 10 min walk from there). Do you know anything about that?
