We are catching a 7am ferry Sept 16 and i wonder if anyone has experience with getting to the ferry terminal by taxi from outside the old town. Cars are not allowed in the old town as I understand it but presumably taxis are?

You are probably right about an exemption for taxis, but at the least, if they must drop you on the roads that are shown in white (not grey) on Google Maps, then it's only a 5-minute walk to the ferry dock.
