Road Safety from Split to Plitvice Nat'l Park

My husband and I are planning to rent a car to drive from Split, Croatia to Plitvice Nat'l Park next November 2026.
We have reservations at Hotel Jezero for 2 nights. Would like input regarding the roads to get there in terms of safety and clear signage. I've read there are some long stretches of remote areas. We'd like to stop at Krka Nat'l Park on the way.
Thanks

Well, it is more or less rural Croatia, but that does not mean it isn't safe.

You will have 4 lane divided highway for part of the drive. Your rental car will most
likely be set to keep track of the speed limits (which change on the rural roads not
infrequently) so that should be straightforward.

You have some options for the second half of the drive into Plitvice. While you
have the highway for more of the drive, the option through Bunic crosses over the
mountains and can be slow especially if you are behind trucks. Taking 27 to 1
is a faster drive on the 2-lane part but you are off the highway sooner.

The roads were very smooth and signage is, if I recall, not an issue.

No lights on the roads so night driving might be a bit of a risk, but it does not sound
like you plan to do that.

Also, a lot can change in 14 months.

It is really very easy, just take the motorway going north out of Split and follow the signs to Plitvička jezera. Road to Plitvice from there is straightforward, only two lanes but it is built to good standard. Smaller roads in the area may not be as well marked or signed.

Do not look for road numbers, just follow the signs.

It is maybe two hour drive or just shorter from Skradin. Sun will set around 16-17h in November so I would want to be on the road from Skradin around 14:00.

Nothing will change in 14 months, though I am wondering if there is specific reason why you have picked November?
