We are travelling from Dubrovnik to Split via rental car- I have looked on many sites- AutoEurope, Argus, Kayak, and the size of the car is confusing- There will be 6 adults with same number of suitcases. We do not wish to rent a huge van- talk about screaming 'tourist!' but am unsure of what size would accommodate us. Anyone with the same experience? Any recommendations? Thank you so much!
Even if you wanted to, I wonder if you could fit 6 adults and 6 bags in a van. Maybe you'd be better off with 2 (or even 3) cars. There is pretty good, inexpensive public transportation. Are you looking to drive for a specific itinerary reason?
Transport in Croatia is not really expensive. Consider renting 2 cars if you don't want to rent a huge van.

8 of us travelled from Split to Dubrovnik, last month and other places in Croatia as well (Zagreb, plitvices)
After a lot of research I opted for private transfers for all our different legs.
It was pretty much the same price as renting 2 cars, gas etc. And it was stress free.
They picked us up from our apartment in Split and dropped us off at Pilar gate in Dubrovnik.
I highly recomment https://www.octopustransferscroatia.com/
If you consider a transfer, compare the prices with a few companies. www.cheapdubrovniktours.com are long established here in Croatia.
Thank you all very much. I will look into the transfers. Unsure whether 2 rentals will fit in our rented place. Great ideas, thanks!
Why not just take the catamaran ferry?
We rented a Mercedes that sat 6 comfortably with luggage. We drove from Zagreb to Rijeka to Split. But once in Split we ditched the car at the airport then after 4 nights took a catamaran to Korčula then a private driver from there to Dubrovnik, then another private driver back to Zagreb. Economically the cost was around the same since we were 6 adults, but we didn’t have to worry about getting to an airport or bus depot. We were picked up and dropped off. Also, we could catch up on a little sleep which always seems to be needed on vacation.
Thank you. I am looking into a catamaran- pricing.
Any company that is recommended.
Thank you!
Jody
When we were there in April there was only one catamaran/ferry company running. Weather can change routes as we found out.
