We are traveling in September and plan to travel from Split to Zagreb via the Plitvice Lakes. Noticing most of the larger rental companies charge a one-way drop fee of about $100. Does anyone have recommendations on reputable rental agencies that may not include such high one-way drop fees. Many thanks for any input on this!
I see from a test booking through www.autoeurope.com that they also warn you about the fee. The site allows you to test various scenarios with different local vendors, but if you call them, a booking agent might possibly know the area or have another way to find the cheapest total price.
My partner and I are actually doing the exact same thing at the beginning of October. We booked a car through Sixt, and the one-way fee was 56 euro. Not cheap, but not as bad as $100. From what we found, Sixt seemed to have the best deals, particularly if you want to rent/return the car in city locations, rather than the airports. Hope that helps!
Thanks Laura and Rachel for your recommendations! Happy travels.
We were very pleased with Oryx. I know we paid a cross border fee, but I don't remember about a drop fee. We were also able to rent a wireless hot spot to go with the car that worked great. The car was practically brand-new and we took it for a 10 day rental from Rijeka to Dubrovnik that included trips to Mostar and Kotor. There were no surprise extra fees at the end.
