Rental Car Question Croatia

We decided to rent a car in Croatia for our trip next year. We may reserve through Booking.com and it comes with a collision waiver.

What are your thoughts on additional insurance offered by the rental car agency, do we need any? Thanks in advance.

I usually compare to my credit card coverage and likely sometimes do it, sometimes don't.
I have not needed a car yet in Croatia as it is very itinerary-dependent.

Good idea on the credit card, thanks! I didnt want to rent a car but we are going from Split to Plitvice then to Rovinj and finally Ljubliana.

Yes for Istria one is certainly recommended--but do check if you'll be doing a different-country drop-off, as those can cost dearly.

We’ve been renting a car in Croatia for the past 2 years through booking.com. And we take their full insurance coverage. The peace of mind for me, especially when driving through some of those narrow streets, is worth the extra price. We used them in Portugal also in 2024.
Luckily, we haven’t had an incident yet, but that’s why you get insurance, for when your luck runs out.

If you were going to use the car just from Split to Rovinj and drop it off when you get to
Rovinj, that would change things a bit in my view, depending on the pickup/dropoff points.
Parking in Plitvice shouldn't be too big of an issue.

Driving within the cities is borderline lunacy, but outside of that, the Croatian roads are
pretty good, and your confidence level would probably go up not having to navigate
tricky narrow streets.

Also as noted, the dropoff charge across Croatia to Slovenia will be much more than
dropping the car off in a different part of Croatia. Drop the car off when you get to
Rovinj and then take a bus to Ljubljana.
