I plan to rent a car in Split, Croatia, use it in Croatia and Slovenia, and drop off the car in Zagreb. Has anyone rented a car in Croatia and also used it for traveling in Slovenia? If so, did you have any challenges with the car rental company for multi-country use and would you recommend using or avoiding the car rental agency you used?
We did the same thing in 2012 with no problems and no drop off charges.
For Slovenia you will need a Vignette to display on the car windshield. You can buy one at services stations.
We arranged the rental through Gemut, who we have used many times before.
We rented at Sixt in Split Airport and dropped it of in Ljubljana because drop off rates between countries were reasonable. DONT DO IT. They charged us for items (GPS ) in the car that did not work and talked me into a vehicle based on fuel savings that never materialized. Neither the company nor the franchise (branch) would refund anything and had to get my credit card company to take action. Hope this helps.
Using the car in Slovenia won't be a problem as long as you return it in Croatia, cross-border drop offs should be avoided due to the high fees.
I have a reservation for a car rental in Zagreb Airport with return in downtown Zagreb. The company I chose is called Nova. Their price was considerably less than Sixt or going thru Hotwire. I plan to drive in Croatia and Slovenia. Has anybody had any experience with Nova car rental?
