Recommendations for Accommodations in Split and Dobrovnik

My husband and I are traveling to Croatia in September 2019. Any recommendations for an Airbnb/room? Prefer to book direct with an owner if possible, as opposed to going through Booking or the other sites.

This was way back in 2004, and we had a car and visited Split but not Dubrovnik, but we stayed just up the coast from Split, outside of Solin. It was so long ago that I don't remember exactly where we stayed, and we hadn't arranged lodging ahead of time, but Solin might be a place to expand your search, if it helps. Close to Split and sights but maybe more convenient and/or a better price?

The traditional "home-stay" option in Croatia is the "sobe". There are many of them. When we were in Split and Dubrovnik, we found charming places on booking.com.

I really enjoyed my stay at Benussi Rooms just a short walk outside Dubrovnik's Pile Gate.

We've stayed at Apartments Baltazar in Dubrovnik a couple of times. The host, Evo, is great and very helpful. The apartments are just off the main north-south road and high on the hillside so the views are great but it's 434 stair steps to the main gate.

We stayed at the Hotel Mural in Split which I also recommend. It's just east of the main placa as I recall.

I highly recommend trips to the national parks, Krka and Plitvice.

Hoping for some less expensive options.

We just returned from Split - we stayed in a lovely little hotel on the square - Piazza Heritage Hotel. Small boutique - great breakfast included.

We stayed in Apartments Raic in Dubrovnik (just returned) and liked it very much. The hostess is wonderful. Only thing to note is that it is in the Old Town, so there are a lot of stairs.

I really liked Golden Gate Rooms in Split - I had a room inside one of the walls of the Palace and it had a little balcony, too. Very cool and centrally located - santonijevic7 @ gmail.com

In Dubrovnik, Apartments Pavisa, an RS recommended sobe, is at the top of a lot of stairs but the rooms are large and have AC and a small kitchenette. Arrive at Buza Gate so you don't have to climb the stairs with your bags. www.apartmentspavisa.com
