A relative in Croatia was talking about visiting this area next time we are in town. It is north of Plitvice and looks just as lovely with none of the crowds or costs. I know forum travelers are always looking for ‘off the beaten path’ places to visit. We haven’t been yet but it is definitely on our list.

We went to Rastoke on the way to Plitvice. It's a very pretty village with water flowing under and between houses in mini waterfalls into a river and a worthwhile side trip. We spent an hour or so wandering the streets for good views. But it is in no way an alternative to Plitvice.

For people that have limited time and want to see some beautiful nature it could be an alternative stop. I just wanted to get some new information out to future travelers. I think that Plitvice lakes have been hyped so much that people feel if they miss it they have missed Croatia.
