We will be doing a bike barge tour in kravner bay the last week of August . We are staying 4 more days after this tour. Wanted to go to Dubrovnik from there and see that area and possibly day trips from there, but im am not sure if that is a realistic choice since it's so far away. Seems like we'd loose a lot of time in travel having only 4 days. Our departure flight is also out of Zagreb . Any suggestions to make this idea happen? Other possible places to spend 4 more days that don't involve so much travel time?
In 2015, my friend and I took an early morning flight, around 7 am, from Dubrovnik to Zagreb on a Croatian airline. Flight was about one hour and cost was about $70.
Croatia is small but by bus or even rented car it takes forever. And there is no train to Dubrovnik. I would fly.
Where does the trip end (and what does it include--just curious)? You could see if there is a flight from Rijeka airport, but I would not proceed that way. Are you open to renting a car? What about Istria, the Kvarner mainland? There are some interesting places near Zagreb as well. No way I'd waste all that time getting to Dubrovnik and back to Zagreb when plenty of beautiful places are so convenient.
Given the very short time you have, scrap the idea of going all the way down south. Concentrate on the north where you'll be...there is plenty to see there too! I would simply constrain your geographic reach to make this a successful trip. Croatia is beautiful even if you don't get to Dubrovnik this time around. There are countless beautiful sites in all regions of Croatia, and the country is deceptively long and it takes a lot of time to travel all the way down. I wouldn't waste your precious 4 days zigzagging all over. If you have to go, then take a short flight..it's the only sensible option.
