We are arriving in Dubrovnik Sunday 5/5 at around 1pm. We do not need to be in Dubrovnik until the evening of 5/6, at which time we will be spending a week with a conference. I would like to spend that first night overnight in some other area. We will have time over the next week for day trips, but is there something particular we should focus on for overnight?
Mostar, BiH and Kotor, Montenegro both come to mind. Mostar is a popular day trip so it gets crowded in the daytime, much more pleasant at night. Kotor itself wasn't quite a favorite spot but the scenery along the Bay and above the town from walking the steep "walls" is amazing.
Do you mean your flight lands at 1pm? If this is the case, it will be closer to 3pm by the time you arrive in central Dubrovnik.
Are you going to be jetlagged? Mostar is the best part of a 4 hour bus ride, which you may not want if you are just off a long flight.
You could spend the night in Cavtat which is an easy journey from the airport and explore some of the smaller nearby islands on the Sunday. Mostar on the Sunday may mean a later return than you had planned.
Our flight lands just before 1. We will not need to collect bags. We are pretty good about sleeping on the plane so we are going to plan as if we won’t be jet-lagged. I definitely am not looking at hopping on a bus for a 4 hour bus ride. I would like to do something easy and laid-back, but still want to take advantage of the extra day we have. If there is a journey we can embark on right from the airport rather than traveling to central Dubrovnik that would be great. We can consider a private transfer, but of course will also need to get back the next day.
