My friends and I (mid-60s) are traveling to Croatia in May 2026 for 14 days. We're flying into Pula and out of Dubrovnik.
We're thinking of stopping in Zadar for a few days on our way to Dubrovnik. We'd like to find a place north of Zadar that would be quicker to get to (from Pula). We're interested in history, architecture and food!
Any suggestions on where to stop in-between Pula and Zadar?
How are you traveling--public transport or rental car?
Have you determined how long yo will spend in Pula, Zadar, and Dubrovnik?
Early or late May?
Opatija is the obvious choice -- I found it a pleasant stopover. I have also stayed in neighboring Lovran.
It is also possible to go this route by sea--I posted the schedule in a thread yesterday.
We will be traveling in early May and will be using public transport.
We'll be staying roughly 3/4 days each in Pula, Zadar and Dubrovnik. Thank you for your suggestions of Opatija and
Lovran! I look for the sea route you posted!
I’d be more interested in doing this at a warmer time of year, and check schedules very carefully, but it could be interesting:
Jadrolinija operates a car ferry, and Krilo a passenger only catamaran: https://krilo.hr/en/sailing-schedule/pula-unije-susak-mali_losinj-ilovik-silba-zadar/

I have read recent reports of Opatija being crowded and expensive, but we enjoyed it fine for a brief stay. The walk along the lungomare to Volosko was nice (good seafood restaurants there).
