Preference between Dubrovnik, Split and Hvar

We will be in Zagreb for work the first week of April but would love to leave early and see something else of Croatia. We've been told it's absolutely beautiful and given tons of options Dubrovnik, Split, Hvar, Krka park and Plitvice lakes are top of the lists we've been given. With only about 3-5 days extra to spend before hand, what would you guys choose to do? I know we can fly none stop to Dubrovnik so, that is easiest, but we are willing to travel farther. We enjoy just taking in the culture, walking around a city, history and architecture but we do like active trips.

The one place I wouldn’t head to in April is Hvar - it’s too early in the season for most places to be open. The catamaran may be interrupted by bad weather, but the Stari Grad ferry will run.

You could hire a car and spend a day at Plitvice then the next at Krka then head to Split and Trogir. Dubrovnik will take the longest to get to from Zagreb. Do you have to return to Zagreb for your flight home? If you do, then I would only head as far as Split to avoid spending most of the time in transit.

Thank you. We will actually be visiting any place we see before our tip to Zagreb. Had considered flying into Dubrovnik and then flying to Zagreb and home from there. However, if there isn't enough to see or do for 3 or 4 days in Dubrovnik, we could simply focus on Split and the lakes. I know this is a very broad question. Basically, I guess I'm asking what one thing you would see in Croatia if you had to choose. We hope to be returning in the future and could see other things then.

It's hard to answer--Dubrovnik is not my favorite (cruise ships are a plague), but everyone should see it once. I could easily fill five days there though. One day, explore nearby Bosnia and Mostar. One day, drive down to Kotor Bay in Montenegro. One day, explore Dubrovnik. One day, do a boat trip. One day, do a wine trip to Peljesac peninsula, visit Ston for shellfish meal.
You could also arrive Dubrovnik, get your fill, and drive north seeing other places (Split, Krka, and Plitvice are all en route), so it just depends on how you wish to structure this trip.

Hi, for a short stay I will suggest the Dubrovnik region. Few days in Dubrovnik and few days on island Korcula. Plitvice are fantastic if you will have more days.
