Plitvice Lakes National Park in Croatia and Triglov in Slovenia

We are thinking of going to Plitvice Lakes National Park in Croatia and Triglov in Slovenia for one week each. They are only a four hour drive apart. Thoughts on that idea? We would like to do little activities in the surrounding towns too. Like dinners and such.

There is not much to do around Plitvice besides the park itself. One night, at most 2, is more than enough.

It sounds like a week would definitely be too much in Plitvice then. I’m open to ideas of other areas in Croatia before, on on the way, to Triglov. I wonder how many days everyone thinks is a good amount for Triglov.

While you are in the Triglov area, you can drive the Vrsic Pass in the Julian Alps. The views are gorgeous and there are places to stop and park (such as the Russian Chapel) A quick Google search will provide a plethora of information on this drive. I would also suggest Kobarid with its WWI Museum as well as the Italian Charnel House.

We are in Plitvice now and it's wonderful. Total time here 2.5 days and 2 nights. We spent a full day at the park, walked 10 miles. Another day exploring the area and it’s been wonderful.

We’ve seen the Barać Cave, Drežnik (Old Town) and an abandoned military base on the Croatian/Bosnia border that was paid for by the U.S. in the 1960s. Tonight we are headed to an elk and deer farm where we get to interact and feed the animals.

I think 2 days is good depending on what you want to see. We are staying in a FABULOUS bed and breakfast where the food is cooked fresh daily. The Pasticada is cooked for two days!

Been a lovely time here so far!

What is the name of the B&B you loved? Not sure if it's OK to mention on this site.
