picking up an automatic rental car

Four of us women would like to pick up an automatic rental car in Split. Drive it for 5 or 6 days and end up in Ljubljana. On the last day we are there our flight leaves at 7:10 AM. Should we drop it off the day before and catch a taxi or uber to the airport? Nothing will be open that hour. Can you suggest a rental company that will allow us to pick up in Croatia, but drop off in Slovenia. Trying to make all the plans now even though we don't go until the end of September. Thanks.

Dropping a rental car off in a different country incurs a large drop off fee.Leave car in Croatia and take public transit to Ljubljana.

If your flights are final, rent car in Split, drive around Croatia, drop car in Zagreb, then take train or bus (2+ hours) to Ljub for last night. In 2013, we rented a car in Zagreb, drove through Slovenia for a week, then returned to Croatia for 2 more weeks. Dropped the car in Dubrovnik. The other country drop fee was too much for us to stomach.

Even dropping off in a different location WITHIN Croatia almost doubled our rental

We had a rental for 23 days in Croatia which would have been $400 CAD for the entire time if we had returned it back to Dubrovnik airport. Instead we returned it in Rijeka and the total was just under $800.

If money isn’t an issue then you would probably be best to rent from a larger provider, enterprise etc. because they will likely have more stores in Slovenia. However I’d probably recommend to return to Zagreb or Rijeka and take the bus the rest of the way
