I really want to stay overnight at the Plitvice park and soak it in. Early October. Any suggestions on travel to Plitvice from Split? We will not have a car. Places to stay? Places to eat? Have you stayed at the hotels at the park? I know you can “see” it in one day, but we have the time to enjoy it. Thanks.
Five years ago now, we stayed at Hotel Plitvice, inside the park. To my recollection it was a bit more expensive, but it included a second park day. Very convenient and a dated, like a 1950’s dated bathroom, hoot. The food was standard, nothing special, but certainly adequate. For us it was worth it for the convenience, parking, included food and the extra park day. I didn’t check to see if anything has changed, so if you’re interested, read the fine print.
We used Octopus Transfers to travel to Plitvice (via Zadar, where we stayed a couple of nights) and then from Plitvice to Zagreb. They were great. Each driver was punctual (usually a little early) and polite and gave us some information about sights we were passing. https://www.octopustransferscroatia.com
There are buses, which would be less expensive, but you would have less control over timing, of course.
We stayed at Hotel Jezero, one of the park hotels, which as Wanderlust58 mentioned, includes entry to the park twice--arrival day and checkout day. That way, we were able to go during less crowded times, which was wonderful. The hotel was fine. The rooms were nothing special, but the hotel was nice, and the food was good. https://np-plitvicka-jezera.hr/en/plan-your-visit/hotels-and-camps/hotel-jezero/
