We are going on a Greek Isles cruise at the end of August/beginning of September and are planning to visit Croatia afterwards. My husband and I have 2 kids, ages 12 and 9 that we will be traveling with. We don't have much time so we will just focus on the Dalmatian coast. Unfortunately, we can't add any more days, even though I would love to, because we're restricted by how much school we want our kids to miss. My original plan was to spend a couple of nights in Split, 1-2 nights on Korcula, and then a few nights in Dubrovnik. Since we only have 6 days though, I'm wondering if we should either skip Korcula or try to make it a stopover while taking the ferry from Split to Dubrovnik. Or should we just do a daytrip from Split to possibly Vis? What would you recommend?
Also, I've been endlessly researching transportation between Italy and Croatia for after our cruise. Our cruise disembarks in Ravenna which is closest to Bologna airport and then Venice. We want to get to Croatia ASAP but there are no nonstop flights from any cities in Italy that day, other than Rome which is about a 5-6 hour train ride from Ravenna. Taking a connecting flight from Bologna seems to be the best option but I'm open to other suggestions. The overnight ferry from Ancona to Split is not available until the next day which would not get us to Croatia until 2 days after we disembark our cruise. The overnight ferry from Bari to Dubrovnik IS available that same day but the train time to Bari from Ravenna looks to be over 7 hours. Ferries from Venice to Istria are not running that day. One way car rentals seem possible but since it's a Sunday, many car rental locations in Italy are closed and the ones I found that are open on a Sunday will require quite a bit of time wasted to get to that location and then once you add on the drive to Split and the cost of the one-way fee, it doesn't seem like a great option. I've checked private transfers and they start around 800 euros and again, quite a long trip. Is there an obvious solution that I'm missing here? Would love to have it be simpler than this but there don't seem to be many options for that specific date!
Thank you!
