Our family of 4 (two older teenagers) will be returning to Croatia in June. We will arrive in Dubrovnik after an action-packed 9 day southern Italy tour, and will depart from Split one week later. Our kids have been begging to return to Croatia for a "beach trip." In 2019 we spent 4 nights on Hvar as part of a two-week trip to Croatia, and the consensus was that this was the favorite part of the trip, and we would have liked to spend extra time on an island.
I am considering renting a house on either Korcula or Brac for one week. Our kids want to go to the beach, paddle board, and snorkel. The adults will want to do the same, but would also like to visit towns and historic sites. We will have a rental car, and I would prefer to take a ferry from one of the smaller ports along the coast- so that we don't have to drive into Split. Does anyone have any advice on which would be a better island to visit for that period of time?
Not sure about that which is "better" , Lumbarda village on the island of Korcula, on eastern tip, does have great sandy beaches (Przina) and lot of watersport activities. In case you are into surf, wind etc, Orebic on the other side offers lot for a day trip. Just idea.
In Dubrovnik you can go kayaking around the outside of the wall. And there are a few beaches on Lokrum, just a quick, but expensive ferry ride away.
On korčula besides Lumbardo, there are water sports and water taxis from Korčula Town which take you to nearby small islands for swimming such as Vrnik.
We haven’t been to Brač so I cannot comment.
But one observation I would like to make about Croatia, every yearly visit we make we see and find new experiences popping up. The Croatians seem to listen to the tourists (or maybe just brainstorming) and are improving their available activities. So if there was no kayaking last year doesn’t mean it’s not available this year. Check out each city, or town, or island’s websites for updates.
