I am looking for a smaller town for a 2 or 3 day stop between Dubrovnik and Split . I will be using public transportation. I am more of a history buff than a beach person. I am fine to also stay in one town and do day trips. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Korčula is about midway. There's also Hvar that's closer to Split.

Brela is a beautiful little town right on the sea and backed up by mountains. There are private guest houses as well as hotels and an assortment of restaurants, bakeries and coffee vendors. Transportation is a breeze.
