Market rate for private transfers between Dubrovnik and Split

Hello - we followed Rick's advice in the book and contacted Dubrovnik Riviera Tours for a private transfer from Dubrovnik and Split and back (two rides total). This is for two people in late May.

They quoted us 500 Euro. Is this a reasonable price?

Thanks,
Angella

I would be taking the bus or catamaran myself. But if I needed to compare prices on a private transfer, I'd head to Google and search for them. I just did - there are plenty of results to compare with the one you got a quote from. No idea if they are legit or not - but unless they are significantly less than what you found already, it doesn't matter if they are legit or not.

I am not opposed to private transfers when they solve an otherwise difficult/complicated problem. But buses between Split & Dubrovnik are easy & frequent & cheap. The trip takes about 4 hours. And it’s actually a scenic ride.

I took a bus too during my trip, so I can vouch positively for it. It was very affordable and scenic, and the bus was very modern. Luggage was stowed on the side, no problem.

Yes, it is a reasonable quote. We used Dubrovnik Riviera Tours to tour the Peljesac peninsula. Great driver, very entertaining!

You should get transfer for about €200 each way but the regular bus service is comfortable and not expensive.

Thanks for the advice all. I did find transfer online at lower prices, but they didn't have definitive user reviews (or more importantly, a rec from Rick Steves' guides). I'll definitely look at buses too - I didn't know they were so frequent. Too bad catamarans won't be running when we're there - I think that would have been really fun too!

I checked the schedule and saw the Catamarans start in June. That was a few weeks ago so I'll check again. Thanks!
