We had a couple weeks in January in Croatia with approximately 3 days in Zagreb. Don’t leave Zagreb out of a schedule, I needed a couple more days than what I had to see everything. It is a very enjoyable safe city to visit. If you make it to Zagreb check out the Vindola Restuarant, just lovely for fine dining at an affordable price. Max from Urban Adventures provided a fantastic food and history tour, well worth doing. We will return to Zagreb at a warmer time, next time. One advantage in the low season is that it is easier to drive and you can get a park in some of the coastal towns which I don’t believe you would achieve in the summer months. We traveled 2700 kms so saw a far bit over 19 days.
Post a trip report. Sounds like a great trip. My wife and I are also great fans of Zagreb.
Zagreb provided a very worthwhile visit for us. Bonus: few tourists from North America.
We will be in Zagreb this summer, will check out your restrauant recommendation. We too like Zagreb, a fun, small city.
I searched for Vindola Restaurant and only came up with Vinodol Restaurant. Is this the correct one cjlcarmody?
Sorry my spelling issue, you found the restaurant and the correct spelling is Vinodol. Another place we eere taken on our walking tour was for breakfast at Otto & Frank https://www.otto-frank.com/ .

Thank you for your post! Next Fall we will be coming from Budapest to Zagreb, where I thought we'd rent a car and head to the coast. Now I'm thinking we should spend a couple of days in Zagreb. Any accommodations you'd recommend?

We used Booking.com, have in more recent times moved away from AirBnB. We stayed in "Yellow Apartment", very reasonable rate, less than 2km from city centre, the tram runs past apartment, free area to park a car nearby. Only one bedroom and at the top of 4 flights of stairs, otherwise it was perfect for two people.
We often stay with a specific person in Zagreb. I'd be happy to PM anyone with the name and contact info of my "personal sobe owner". His rates are fair, and he has several apartments 5-6 blocks from the main square.
Hello Paul,
There will be 4 of us traveling to Zagreb this September. I would be interested in your contact for a place to stay.
Thank you,
Terri
Was there last summer and plan to go back...very underrated city.
Cjlcarmody, in Zagreb as I type. Heading to Vinodol in about an hour. We are staying at an apartment in the Flower Square so it is just around the corner. Thanks!
I just booked a tour of Zagreb with Urban Adventures. Glad to hear you enjoyed yours.
At Vindola restuarant let them pick the wine, it went down well.
We are staying at the Palace Hotel Zagreb in August. It's 102€ for a Saturday night with breakfast. Across the street from Park Josipa. The Dubrovnik Hotel is another great place to stay.
Hi cjlcarmody , I wanted to ask about the food tour you did with Urban Adventures. Can you let me know what kind of food did you sample on the tour ?
