We took a Rick Steve's tour last fall in Dobrovnik. I can't find the name of our tour guide. He had apartments he rented in the city. We are heading back in September and would prefer booking directly with the owner of a room/apartment. Suggestions for accommodations in Dobrovnik would be appreciated.
Hi Linda,
My wife and I much prefer Cavtat (about 10 min from the airport) to Dubrovnik. Smaller, less crowded, great restaurants, and very accessible to Dubrovnik by car (taxi), bus, or boat. We stayed at the Hotel 7th for 4 nights and would recommend it again in a second.
Here are some apartment listings from his guidebook..

I try my best to avoid booking.com or airbnb in an effort to help the owners bottom line. I realize there is some risk with doing this, which is why i thought I would ask on this forum in hopes to get a review from other Rick Steve fans! AND I left my Croatia book @ my home in Colorado, so thank you for helping me out!
Good suggestion!
We have stayed at Dubrovnik Gardens, B&B Andio, and Pavisa Apartments. 1&3 in Rick’s book. We can recommend all three. If you book with Dubrovnik Gardens, ask for the large apt in the main building. The garden apt was nice but very small. All three of Pavisa’s apts are the same but he is at the top of the steps off the Stradun (Main Street) and Andio is right off the Stradun so no stairs but it is across from a bar. (If the bar is still open, some businesses open and close quickly in the old town). Only in Dubrovnik Gardens does the owner live on sight.
We stayed at Karmen Apartments in Dubrovnik. The owner, Marc, lives on the upper floors with his family, so it is nice having him right there to help and to answer questions. Karmen Apartments are in an excellent location, located right next to the walls, and about a 5-minute walk from Ploce Gate. We booked directly with Marc.

If you are looking for restaurant recommendations, I highly recommend Taj Mahal, a Bosnian restaurant. You do need reservations. We also loved Kopun, located at the top of the Jesuit steps. We had very fresh fish and seafood dishes. One of the best meals of our trip.
Within Dubrovnik’s old city walls on Antuninska street is the highly-rated Guesthouse called “ Rooms Vicelic.” The owner-operators are a local family who manage the handful of comfortable rooms in the building. When I stayed there last September rates were about €70 for two. You can view online photos and reviews of Rooms Vicelic and, if interested, book directly at a 10% discount with Mr. Markunovic at [email protected]
