Ljubljana or Dubrovnik-extra day

We are think of doing RS tour of Croatia and Slovenia next fall. I was going to add an extra day to either Dubrovnik or Ljubljana and wanted opinions on which city i should pick. TIA

The tour includes a full day in each town. I'd go with Ljubljana (larger, and I'd want to arrive the day before my tour starts, anyway). It certainly wouldn't be a mistake to spend an extra night in Dubrovnik to facilitate a side-trip to see the Bay of Kotor, but tours are expensive, and I wouldn't be willing to risk missing the first day due to a major transportation snafu on the way to Ljubljana.

Do you currently have 2 nights in each city? Could you add an extra night in both cities? We had 3 nights in each city. This gave us time for a day trip around the Bay of Kotor when we were in Dubrovnik. While in Ljubljana, we rented a car for the day and drove over the mountains (through Skofja Loka, Kropa, etc.) to Lake Bled for a day. The scenery was spectacular! Both cities are beautiful and also very different from each other.

We do have 2 nights in each city and I will arrive 1 day earlier in Ljubljana since that is where the tour begins. We have 2 nights in Dubrovnik, but wasn’t sure if there is enough to do for 3 days.

Bonnie, with 3 nights, you probably really end up with 2 full days. Whether or not there is enough to do in Dubrovnik for 2 whole days depends on your interests and the type of traveler you are. Do you want to see everything? We had one whole day for sightseeing in Dubrovnik. This is what we did: walked the walls, had lunch, visited the Dominican Monastery, War Photo Limited, and took cable car to top of Mt. Srd for beautiful views and drinks. We didn’t have time to see the Franciscan Monastery. There are churches, too, and some smaller museums. You could hire a private driver, if you don’t want to drive, to drive you around the Bay of Kotor in Montenegro on the second day if you don’t feel the need to spend that day in Dubrovnik.

Either way, you can’t go wrong. Both cities are beautiful!

Looking at the Adriatic tour itinerary, I would add your extra day to Dubrovnik. You're already arriving a day early in Ljubljana and the tour takes you to Slovenian day trip locations others have mentioned, but the tour only gives you an evening and a full day in Dubrovnik. The extra day there would allow you to see more sights in Dubrovnik or day trip to Bay of Kotor. I once did a day tour to Montenegro and didn't think it was expensive.

We took this tour last year and we added two nights to Ljubljana after spending a week in Venice. We were unable to get reservations at the RS hotel, so stayed at the recommended Meščanka Apartments on the river. We really enjoyed the charm and vibe of staying on the river. Wonderful walking city, and excellent restaurants. We added sights not included on the tour. Two nights in Dubrovnik was just right for us. If we had more time we would have toured Montenegro. This was one of our favorite RS Tours!
