We are signed up for a week cruise beginning and ending in Rijeka. Operator is Blue Croatia/I.D. Riva and we board near the end of September, visiting several islands and as far south as Zadar. Has anyone done this? What should we expect as far as weather, food on board, etc.? Any help on packing and planning will be helpful.
I’ve been to two of the Kvarner islands and Zadar, but it was May/June. The weather generally turns in October, so I’d just monitor the ten day forecasts and plan accordingly.
We would need to know your specific plans to make any other suggestions, for food questions I’d contact the company.
We will cruise to Kirk, Rab, Zadar, Kornacki N.P., Dugi Otok, Losinj and Cres. Cruise is one week.i have no idea what specific stops or any other details. The cruise begins and ends in Rijeka. First week of October.
I’d do a bit more digging with the cruise company to be sure, but this may be helpful since books rarely delve into much detail in this area: http://visit.kvarner.hr/
It should be a beautiful trip! We primarily tooled around Losinj and hiked, so I don’t have much else to offer. The walk along the Lungomare from Opatija to Volosko is nice—I’ve noticed a couple tv shows using this locale as a substitute for Italy.
After the cruise, we go to Opatija for a day and a night before heading on to Rovinj. After a few days in Rovinj (including a day trip to Porec and Motovun), we head onward to Venice by catamaran.
Before the cruise, we will have been to Plitvice NP, Split Sibenik, Dubrovnik, etc.
There are better hill towns than Motovun. Look at Grožnjan. It was so much nicer, you can drive up the hill and there is a parking lot there. We also went to Orprtalj which also has a parking lot, no climbing up hill. One place did charge a nominal fee but I can’t remember which town.
Last time we visited Motovun there were so many closed businesses and houses for sale it was depressing, really. Also, the streets there are the very old rectangular stones, not easy to walk on.
Also, Poreč is very nice and underrated. It is on the coast and flat.
Good to know. Our day tour from Rovinj includes Porec, Groznjan and Motovun and since there is a driver, we will trust that they will handle the parking! We will have to pay the entrance fee for the Euphrasian Basilica, but want to see that, so this package excursion ticked a lot of boxes.
