Travelling to Kotor from Dubrovnik by bus. Hope to arrive in Kotor early afternoon. Originally thought to stay in Kotor for two nights but now thinking one is enough. Thoughts?

Kotor is a small town, much smaller than Dubrovnik. We spent an afternoon here, and didn't feel like we needed more. Our great disappointment was that the Cat Museum was closed.
I think 1 night is enough. We used the bus to go from Dubrovnik and back.

Agree, Kotor is a pretty town but a couple hours there is plenty. Recommend doing a boat tour around the Gulf of Kotor also. A one-night stay should be sufficient to do both of these.

If you aren't taking out-of-town side trips, most likely one night will be enough.

Two nights will be nice if you want to visit other towns such as Perast, budva and Herceg Novi.
And hike up the mountain behind Kotor.

Hire a guide/driver ... cheap. Stop and tour Herceg Novi on the way to Perast. Spend night in Perast. Day two go to Kotor in the morning. Drive up the hill to the prosciutto maker, then to Dubrovnik with the ferry.
