Korcula wine tasting

We will be traveling to Korcula in late September. I’m looking for recommendations on wine tours fellow travelers have taken. The Lumbarda area is of particular interest to us. Thank you!

I did not take an organized tour, though there seem to be plenty leaving from Korcula. You could also do a little self-guided tour. There are places you can rent a scooter or e-bikes for a ride to Lumbarda (or points north.) It was a lovely ride, thought could get hot. There are quite a few small wineries by Lumbarda, all seem pretty lovely and have basically the same wines on offer. Grk is the wine of Lumbarda. It doesn’t self pollinate, so it is grown with a red grape that is then used for a red wine and rose. So, three wines basically and hopefully you’ll like them (I liked the Grk a lot.) Vitis Winery was very homey with snack plates using veggies straight from their garden. Winery Sabulum was my favorite. It’s fantastically situated above Lumbarda’s sand beach, and has a very modern, comfortable decor. The owners were terrific, and I ended up staying a long, long while. This was a really nice, relaxing day and I would recommend it to anyone.

While in Korcula, be sure to visit Bokar wine bar. If there’s a true expert in town, it’s the owner. His tasting was the best and most intriguing I had in Croatia. Some other patrons had in depth questions for him and listing to him talk about the wines and Croatian viniculture in general was probably better than any tour you might find.

We will also be on Korcula the end of September and I have highlighted Vitlis, Popic and Lovric as the wineries to see. It seems pretty to get to Lumbarda from the old city. We'll look for you there!
