Can my wife and I spend a week on the island of Korcula without a car? I heard if you dont have transportation then stay in either Vela Luca or Korcula town? Should we get a car? If we are coming from Ljubljana where would we rent one? We want to chill there for a week., (bike, swim, hike, eat). you know the drill. Where do you recomend staying on that island. We chose it becasue it sounds beautiful and a bit off the tourist path.

We always stay in Korčula Town, but parking there in scarce. The bus system is fine and they have ferries that go around and to smaller islands for swimming, like Vrnik. Taxi’s aren’t too expensive. Vela Luka is at the opposite end of the island. You could always stay kinda in the middle in Blato. This is where the wineries are.
Oh, I am jealous. I stayed 3 nights last September (in Korćula Town in an apartment) and would happily go back for a week just to chill. I can’t help with logistics, though. I did a full day wine tour one day and would take a boat trip or 2 if/when I go back.
No need for a car in Korcula Town. There’s a ferry over to Orebic and bus transport 4 miles from Korcula Town to the beach at Lombarda and nearby wine-tasting f the local wine.. Korcula Town is so magical, I think it’s the spot to stay.
It depends on what you want to see/do. There is limited bus service. Do you have any experience with a scooter? You can do day rentals just to get further afield and visit some nature areas/small villages at your pwn pace.
Korcula is the place to stay. You could split the week and also stay in a secluded place for a few nights, that would be nice.
We recently rented a car at Ljubliana airport and drove to Northern Croatia. That worked well. A few years ago we were in southern Croatia and rented a car in Dubrovnik, drove to park for the ferry to Korcula and stayed in a lovely airbnb in town.
I’m currently in Korcula and wanted to post this because I usually have a difficult time getting a good breakfast with GREAT coffee.
Try Maha bar, near Konzum and boat ferry landing. Outside of old part of town.
