We will arrive in Dubrovnik on May 4th and had planned to then head to Hvar on the 7th for 2-3 nights. Based on some comments in the forum, I am not sure May 7 is a good time to go to the islands. It sounds like direct boat transportation. to Hvar from Dubrovnik could be limited at this time of year, the water is cold and many businesses might still be closed. Is May 7th too early to head to Hvar from Dubrovnik?
I am also interested in this question. Rick's book says the islands are dead in early May. Anyone have other experiences? We're likely not swimmers, but principally interested in the availability of transportation to and from islands, finding open restaurants and places to stay. Thank you.
If the weather is good, I would not hesitate to go, provided you did not expect to swim and would relish the quieter environment. Unfortunately, that means leaving it relatively last-minute, but finding accommodations should not be an issue.
Here are the transport options: check dates carefully:

Thank you for the feedback.
We decided to not go to the islands. Instead we are going to take trip south from Dubrovnik to Kotor and then will head to Split through Bosnia.
