We will be traveling traveling from Zagreb to Plitvice to Zadar to Krka before making our way to Split late June. Once we arrive in Split, we would like to stay 3 nights in Vis. In addition, we would like to stay either 3 nights in Korchula or 2 in Kirchula and 1 in Hvar. What is the best order (most efficient) to visit the islands? After visiting the islands, we will return to Split for 2 days before flying home out of Split.
Do you mean Korcula?
Unless you are travelling on a Tuesday from Vis, there is no efficient way! The catamaran linking Vis with Hvar only runs once a week on a Tuesday.
On a Tuesday, you can take the early morning Jadrolinija catamaran (c 7 am) from Vis to Hvar town then take the daily Krilo catamaran to Korcula that goes on to Dubrovnik, so it will be busy. You would have about 40 minutes in Hvar town, so enough time to change boats.
If not travelling on a Tuesday, you would have to travel back to Split before going on to Korcula.
A word of warning - I was there in early September and the catamaran was cancelled for 2 days due to strong winds and bumpy seas. Ferries are far less likely to be cancelled.
Thank you for your response. So, am I correct in understanding that we could spend the night on Vis 6/29, 6/30 & 7/1. Then, on July 2nd (which is a Tuesday), catch the early morning catamaran to Hvar. We could then spend the day or night in Hvar and thereafter catch the krillo catamaran to Korcula? Spend 2 nights in Korcula and then catch the ferry from Korcula back to Split? Is viting in this order efficient or backtracking. Also what would the ferry or catamaran be timewise each leg?
Also, are the catamaran's less likely to be cancelled during the month of July?
You can do as you propose. Personally, I would prefer to stay in Stari Grad or Jelsa rather than Hvar town, which will be busy with young, noisy party goers at that time of year, but this isn’t as straightforward for the catamaran which runs from Hvar town. Note that many places on the islands at that time of year have a 3 night minimum booking.
