Immigration control when returning from Croatia

Since Croatia is not yet a Schengen participant, will I have to go through immigration control in a Schengen country I'm just passing through (e.g, at Paris airport) on my way home to the USA, or only the usual immigration/border control process when I reach the USA?

If you are doing this in the next month or two, then technically, you would do any, if any, exit immigration for Croatia there, arrive in Paris at an International Terminal and only deal with whatever checks they do at the gate to board your plane to the US.

But Croatia is in the middle ground right now, sure, it is possible they may do a passport check for the Schengen area as you board, and you will be on essentially a domestic type flight to Paris, landing at a terminal that then would require you to change terminals and do exit immigration in Paris.

Might help if you knew the terminal you are flying into at CDG and which one your US flight is in.

If this is sometime next year...don't sweat it, things will change anyway.

We were in Montenegro and Croatia 4 weeks ago getting off a cruise ship. Then we got off in Italy.

No checking anything by anyone in Italy. Took a train up to Venice and later flew into London Heathrow where our passports were checked.

Croatia is not in any middle ground, they are not part of Schengen. So if you are flying from Croatia to North America via Paris, there will be no immigration in Paris as long as you stay in the non-schengen part of the airport.
