Ideas for 6 nights in Croatia/BiH

We are planning to run the Dubruvnik Half next April (2019). The first half of the trip is cast in stone.

Arrive mid day Thursday, Friday thinking day trip with tour company to Kotor. Sat rest and Sunday is the race.

Monday AM, would travel to Split for 2 nights.
Wed head to Mostar for 1 night (maybe 2?)
Thursday head to Sarajevo for 2 or 3 nights
Fly home Sunday.

I'm leaning toward renting a car and paying the extra couple $$ for the one way fee, although I'm not opposed to buses.
I am questioning the trip up to Split but not sure what else fits with time and distance. Zagreb was on my list but that seems like a very long drive and would make Mostar and Sarajevo impossible.

Thoughts?

Are you flying out of Sarajevo?
I think the plan looks solid. If you don't want to go to Split, you could go to Korcula. In the off-season, there is a bus from Korcula to Mostar, so check on that. If you keep it with Split, public transport should be a snap.

Rent the car in Dubrovnik. Drive to Mostar (1 night), Sarajevo (2-3 nights), then either Split or Zagreb, drop the car (no one-way fee, or at least not a big one) and fly out. You could stop at Plitvice Lakes on the way to Zagreb - a top attraction in Croatia. But I'd pick Split or Zagreb depending on which one has the best flight option home (all things being equal, I guess I'd opt for Split over Zagreb).
