I would make reservations in advance. We visited Croatia and Slovenia in September 2019, and it was still very busy everywhere. We visited Lake Bled as a daytrip from Ljubjlana, for example, and we had difficulty finding a parking spot by Lake Bled. It is still warm enough in September for swimming so you also have beachgoers, in addition to non-beachgoers. People were swimming in Dubrovnik, Hvar Island and at Lake Bled.

Our visit was in September of 2023, and places were still very crowded. Hotels and restaurants were packed. How much are you willing to gamble on locating a hotel at the last minute while traveling?
