We're going to be on a micro cruise from Split to Dubrovnik and we'll be docking in both Stari Grad and Hvar town. We dock in the afternoon after lunch (I imagine 1 or 2 in each port). I'm wondering how to best delegate our time between the two afternoons. Is it better to spend both afternoons in Hvar town (ie take the bus over there from Stari Grad) or is it worth staying in and exploring Stari Grad? Or heck, is it best just to skip Stari Grad in its entirety and use one of the afternoons to do a tour with one of the tour operators of the island?
What do you have against Stari Grad? It's a great town, arranged around the harbour, with old Venetian architecture and some fantastic restaurants if you are there for a late lunch. I much prefer it to Hvar town if there peak season. Stari Grad plain, a short walk out of town is worth the walk (or rent bicycles), unless it's 40 degrees.
