how to get from dubrovnik to athens

We will be in Croatia next April, landing in Zagreb and ending up in Dubrovnik. We need to get from there to Athens, ideally on April 14 but the 15th would work as well. We can find only one non-stop flight on the 15th (not flying on the 14th) with Aegean. All other flights are with other countries' national airlines, and they would take us way out of our way and last many hours. Example: Turkish Airlines flies from Dubrovnik to Istanbul and then on to Athens. Takes 20 hours or so. I can't find a train service. I'm not familiar enough with Croatia to locate a ferry service, although that might also be horrendously long. No non-stop flights from Zagreb to Athens, either. Any ideas out there for getting from Dubrovnik (or somewhere else in Croatia) to Athens?

Is there a reason you don’t want to take the Aegean 9:55-12:15 nonstop DBV - ATH on the 15th? If the 15th works, it looks like a great option to me, but maybe I am missing something.
Edit: Sorry, Suki and I were posting at the same time.

Book the 15th, good chance it can change a few times anyway. Daughter and I were book NS from Dubrovnik to Rome in the spring and last minute was changed to a route through Vienna,

I'm mainly afraid of the flight being canceled. It appears to be just one flight that day. We've had bad luck recently with canceled flights, although at least they were major airlines that were able to rebook us for the same day with a partner airline. That isn't an option here. Just superstitious, I guess. And I don't know enough about Aegean to know if they're reliable or "flighty" when it comes to actually following their published schedule.

There isn’t any other way. In fact, this is a fairly new route. My husband’s best friend is Greek and we have never been able to meet up in Greece or visa-versa in Croatia on a direct flight before this one started. There are no trains down the coast of Croatia and no ferry to Greece.
