Hotel recommendations in Split & Dubrovnik

Traveling to Split & Dubrovnik in September. Will be in each city for about a week. Any hotel recommendations in each city?

Also, recommendations on transportation between the two cities?
Thanks for your help

In Split we have stayed at the hotel Peristil 3x. Great location, family owned.
In Dubrovnik we have stayed at least 2x each - Dubrovnik Gardens (owner lives on premises), Andio B+B, and Pavisa Apartments.
You can take the bus between the 2 cities. Or check the ferries at croatiaferries.com. Or check privatedriverguideincroatia.com. for a transfer.

Split’s “Golden Gate Rooms” includes rooms built directly into the walls of Diocletian’s Palace, the palace built for the only Roman Emperor to live long enough to retire. In 300 AD this location housed the garrison of Roman guards protecting the north-facing “Golden Gate” of Diocletian’s Palace. The block walls of our room ( “the Deluxe King”) even has the preserved slits in between the stone blocks designed for the defense of the palace.
Golden Gate Rooms are listed on Hotels.com and Booking.com.

The Krilo or TP Line catamarans are the relaxing way to travel from Split to Dubrovnik by way of Hvar and Korcula.

In Dubrovnik we really enjoyed staying at Karmen Apartments, located just inside the walls.

In Split, we really liked ID Regal Residence in the Old Town. Our room was very pretty and charming. The rate included breakfast at the nearby Bokeria Restaurant. You choose from the menu. Outstanding breakfast. Very convenient location. We walked everywhere.
The only negative is that the building does not have an elevator, and our room was on the 3rd floor. You can book with booking.com

In Dubrovnik we also stayed at Karmen Apartments. His son’s gelato place next to the place is the best!

In Split we stayed at Heritage Hotel Antique Split.
We were there in October 2025 and recommend both.

In Split, my husband and I stayed at the following Airbnb. It was just inside the city walls and we were very happy with it. https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/11855188?source_impression_id=p3_1771942759_P3VayG7T23gppARP

And in Dubrovnik, we were above the city with a fantastic view. The Airbnb was very spacious which would be nice especially if you are there for a week. https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/33516472?source_impression_id=p3_1771942972_P3rXmg9tPfWuxTkq

We traveled by ferry from Split to Hvar to Dubrovnik spending a few nights at each location. (Our trip was in September of 2025.) The ferries are an easy mode of transportation.

I haven't been to Split but was in Dubrovnik for four nights in early Sept. 2023. What you have been recommended so far look like smaller B&B type places in or near the old city. Nothing wrong with that! However, you will be there for a week, which is a long time for Dubrovnik. You may well get a bit tired of the heat and congestion of the old town. Another alternative for at least part of your stay is the Lapad area, where bigger hotels tend to be. I was there with a group and we stayed at Hotel Kompas -- very nice. It is a 10-15 minute bus ride to the old city, but that is an easy trip with frequent service. Lapad has a very pleasant seaside path to walk, a nice swimming beach on a cove of the sea right by the hotel, and plenty of good restaurants. It just seemed a bit more relaxed than the old town as a place to stay. There is something to be said for a full service hotel with swimming pool, etc. for that long a stay.
