Can anybody recommend a hotel or B&B near the Split Airport.

Look into Trogir, which is lovely and very close by. www.booking.com should help. It's been years since I've been in Croatia so I cannot recall the hotels. Or you can even look into Split - the airport shuttle may be running quite early ( you should confirm this first).
