My husband and I will be traveling with another couple the first week in October. We want to be in Zagreb a few days before our tour starts. The tour will be staying at the Sheraton. Any suggestions for a centrally located hotel that is less stark and modern than the Sheraton? A wonderful breakfast would be a plus!! Thanks, C
The Hotel Esplanade is what I would consider an Old World Charm hotel. It was built for the young aristocrats who did the European circuit back in the day. It is close to the train station. But, unlike in other capital cities, the area around the train station is safe and clean. We have stayed here and loved it.
The other hotel we like, same vibe, is the Palace Hotel Zagreb. I see they are now open after being closed due to the earthquake. It is closer to the city center.
The Sheraton is really very good. I stayed there with a tour group last year. Sure, the outside looks stark and modern, but the rooms, facilities, service and breakfast are excellent. Our guide, who was from Zagreb, said that of the two similarly rated hotels the tour company regularly uses — the other I think was the Palace but I’m not entirely sure — she much preferred the Sheraton, although it is slightly further from city center (still easy walking distance though), and I think she was being completely honest about that.
Thanks.. the Hotel Esplanade sounds like what I prefer. We will be staying at the Sheraton with the tour group so 2 different locations will be nice! Thanks for the suggestion... I will look into it!!
We enjoyed staying at Hotel Jagerhorn which is very centrally located. Just a short walk from Governor Jelacic Square (the main square). Staff is friendly and helpful. Rooms are comfortable and clean. Breakfast buffet is delicious, and you can have breakfast in their lovely courtyard.
Zagreb was very busy on our dates. We have booked Hotel Jagerhorn for 2 nights!! Thanks for the suggestions!!
